The Temenos Partners; one SAP Trained Jungian Analyst and one Business Anaylst holding two Masters degrees in English literature, wanted their brand identity to reflect their skill, authority and authenticity. But, despite the historical roots of their name Temenos (which, briefly, refers to “a piece of land marked off from common uses and dedicated to a god, a sanctuary, holy grove or holy precinct”), they wanted the brand to feel contemporary and modern.

Jungs principle of the ‘Four Functions’ tells us that in order to achieve a greater sense of wholeness and wellbeing, a balance between, and understanding of, the four aspects of ourselves should be developed and honed. Thus, the Temenos brand, logo and identity are all embody balance, symmetry and deep meaning.

The four functions are symbolically represented within the logo mark, as in alchemy, by the four elements: earth, fire, water and air. These symbols fall within a circular form (Temenos) – the circle acting as the safe space in which to do mental work – and ‘move’ towards the centre of the circle. This is symbolic of their eventual consolidation which aligns with the end-goal of wholeness and well-being.

The various elements used to create the Temenos logo mark also combine to create a unique representation of a mandala, which, when overlapped and repeated, creates a pattern similar to that of ‘The Flower of Life’. Instead of six petals, the Temenos flower has four, which reminds us of The Four Functions – a key focus of this design.
